Also I just listened to a couple songs from The Nothing yesterday - very impressed that Korn were able to break what seemed like years of a holding pattern with something thrilling and inspired
While I do think there's room in Slipknot for melody and I think Corey has a great singing voice, you hit the nail on the head here with saying how Corey creeping to the forefront of the Knot's creative process has directly led to a downturn in their overall quality. I point directly at "Snuff" as exhibit A: it's not a bad song, but why is it a Slipknot song? It's a Stone Sour song in all but name, conversely to how "Get Inside" is a Slipknot song masquerading as a different band.
There's also one other factor that has led to some inconsistency, and that's their once numerically united lineup fracturing over time due to the tragic death of Paul Gray, the dismissal of Chris Fehn, and most importantly the departure and eventual death of #1 himself ✨Joey✨. Not saying the new guys haven't pulled their weight, but that has likely led to a class divide between the OG members and the newcomers.
Also I just looked at their "Band members" graph on Wikipedia for reference and they have three different people playing keyboards now, which, okay, but that definitely says something about how their sound has changed.
Man, you reminded me about Simon Says and now I think I need to hunt down Jump Start and Shut Your Breath CDs on Discogs.

Even if lyrically it is right smack in their old wheelhouse
