Pushing back the square with Deftones' game changing run of albums.
Funny to think but we’re coming up on a brave new world in Deftones enjoyment; the overrated era. Mind you, they’re not, but since they’ve been The Thinking Man’s Nu-Metal Band for at least two decades now it’s starting to get a bit hazy. Certainly amongst nu-metal, a genre which more discerning (read: boring) music fans have been trying to crowbar Deftones out of for as long as they’ve been around, Deftones are the one and only band you can be assured won’t lose you credibility points amongst your non nu-enlightened peers for loving. So it is worth the occasional reminder that these guys really are that good; alchemizing heavy metal into mercury, a vicious and hypnotic substance that they proceeded to reshape the genre with. Today, I will be that reminder as we cast those first three Deftones studio albums a critical eye. Let’s see here;
